After a summer of eatery openings in Silver City, the spotlight turns to Las Cruces and Mesilla. La Iguana, which we've mentioned before in this space, is reportedly aiming for a July opening in its downtown space at 139 N. Main St. Over near the Mesilla Valley Mall, the former home of Johnny Carino's (among other things) at 510 S. Telshor Blvd. may get an Asian makeover and re-open as Empire Buffet, a Chinese restaurant with a sushi bar. And Josefina's Old Gate Café at 2261 Calle de Guadalupe in Mesilla has opened Old Gate Cellars, with a tasting room offering four wines under its own label, bottled by Southwest Wines.
Back in Silver City, Shevek & Co. is featuring a special six-course Mediterranean tasting dinner, which you can also choose to pair with six international wines, on Friday, July 16. Reservations are required. 602 N. Bullard St., 534-9168.
