Rob Connoley at the Curious Kumquat checks in with big news about the popular Silver City gourmet spot's caf. By the time you read this, the Café at the Kumquat will be open for regular sit-down dinners with its new expansion, which means dedicated (non-grocery) seating for 30-plus. Connoley adds, "Our front wall project is started up again now that it has warmed, which will mean a great spot to sit outside and people watch." 111 E. College Ave., 534-0337.

Silver City's already-perking coffeehouse scene has another entry, 3 dogs coffeehouse, now brewing at 503 N. Bullard St.

A new Mexican eatery is opening next to A Better Chimney on Hwy. 180 in Silver City, La Mexicana.

Las Cruces is also getting yet another Mexican-food joint, Miguel's, at 1140 E. Amador, which will specialize in burritos.

Golden Star Chinese Fast Food, which already has outlets in Silver City and Deming, is expanding its eggroll empire to Las Cruces. Owner Danny Fong, originally from Los Angeles, has opened at 1420 El Paseo Road. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. 523-2828.

Brigid's Cross, the Irish pub and restaurant at 1338 Picacho Hills Dr. in Las Cruces, has a new owner and new hours. Doug Eddings, a former professional baseball umpire and Las Cruces native, has come home to take over Brigid's Cross from Patrick and Jovanna Hanlon. A possible name change and some menu alterations — including Mexican food and Monday steak nights — are down the road, but new hours are already in effect: Monday-Thursday, 4-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. 647-1455.

Silver City¹s Golden Dragon has apparently once again been slain. The restaurant on Pope Street is dark and locked and the phone number no longer works.

Fans of the Adobe Café in Reserve, rejoice! The eatery at the "Y" intersection will reopen "March 10th-ish" — no later than March 12.
