Table Talk

The old Garduo's at the Mesilla Valley Mall, 500 S. Telshor Blvd., has at last returned to the Las Cruces restaurant scene with the opening of De La Vega's Pecan Grill & Brewery, as promised in this space back in July. It's now open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and for dinner from 4-10 p.m., with the bar serving "into the wee hours." Despite the "Brewery" name, De La Vega's doesn't actually brew beer on-site, but it does brew its own, which you can sample in a six-beer tasting flight for $5. The food fare is described as "favorite regional recipes," pecan-smoked meats, sandwiches, steaks and seafood. 521-1099.

Look for more flying knives at Katana Teppanyaki Grill in Las Cruces, which is undergoing a renovation to add two more grills. 1001 E. University Ave. (with The Mix restaurant), 532-2042.

Another Las Cruces eatery location soon to have new life is the ex-Casa Luna, 1340 E. Lohman Ave., which reportedly will reopen as a Mediterranean restaurant.

Fans of franchised Italian food and garlic breadsticks, rejoice! Dirt has been moved and a building permit issued for Las Cruces' first Olive Garden restaurant, at 200 N. Telshor Blvd.

Chef Shevek of Silver City's Shevek & Co. restaurant will be sharing some of his culinary secrets, teaching cooking classes beginning Jan. 23. See the restaurant's website at silver-eats.com for details. And if you'd rather not cook for yourself, Shevek & Co. will hold a special five-course "Parisian Rendezvous" dinner on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. $70 per person with wines selected by expert Fernando Chavez, who'll be there to discuss French wines, or $35 with coffee/tea. 602 N. Bullard St., 534-9168.

The popular Blue Front Café in Glenwood will be closed for a month, from jan. 3-Feb. 3. 539-2561.
