Seeking Support
Faith Community Task Force is seeking support from the Grant County community to establish a new elder-housing facility in the Silver City area. With more than 5,000 Grant County residents now over the age of 65 — that's 19% — the group feels the area is ripe for adding safe, affordable housing in a planned community with a continuum of care from independent through assisted living, nursing, dementia and hospice care. In order to purchase a property it has already identified, the task force is applying for loans and asking the local public for donations to secure the necessary equity to qualify for certain grants. Though under the auspices of the First United Methodist Church, Faith Community is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), non-discriminating entity that welcomes all people regardless of religious affiliation or no affiliation, race or national origin. Donations are tax deductible and may be sent to Faith Community, c/o First United Methodist Church, 314 W. College St., Silver City, NM 88061. For further information, call the FUMC office at 538-2371, Don or Marti Trammell at 538-575, or Bill Massengill at 538-2171.
