Page: 2"Take a Look at This!" brings local color from the Ten O'Clock artists to Abraham's Bank Tower Restaurant, on the 4th floor of the Wells Fargo Bank Building, this summer. Participating artists in the group's summer exhibit are Jane Addy, Margaret Bernstein, June Decker, Alice Dressler, Penny Duncklee and Jean Smith. Main and Lohman.
A collection of photographs documenting life in the borderlands between the US and Mexico will be on exhibit through July 15 at the Cottonwood Gallery in the Southwest Environmental Center. On loan from the International League of Conservation Photographers, the 30-photograph exhibit, entitled "Continental Divide: Borderlands, Wildlife, People and the WALL," shows the diversity of wildlife, cultures and communities in the fragile borderlands — jeopardized by the 630 miles of pedestrian and vehicle fencing dividing the US from Mexico. Documenting the region's wildlife and ecology, the photographs were taken earlier this year by world-renowned ILCP photographers who visited the borderlands along with a team of writers, filmmakers and scientists to highlight the effects of the wall.
Beginning this month, the Museum of Art will offer two new art classes for adults. "Drawing Workshop," an intensive weeklong exploration of the art of drawing, meets July 13-17. "A Week of Watercolor" meets July 20-24. Both classes are designed for all levels of students and to strengthen artistic abilities through exercises based on still-lifes, landscapes and other subject matter. The Tombaugh Gallery will be closed for the month of July, reopening in August with a fiber arts exhibit.
The Downtown Ramble beat goes on with the addition of Jud Wright's new location at 266 W. Court Ave., situated in a large 1860s Victorian house. His Justus Wright Galeria formally opens July 3 during the 5-7 p.m. Ramble. The premier show will feature works by Wright, with his latest pastel illustrations. "Up Close and More," a photographic exhibit by Les Boyse, will be on display in thetheatregallery at the Black Box Theatre through this month. Alamogordo artist Johnny Apodaca, who specializes in the art of wood burning his images, is the newest member of the Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery. Members Mayanna Howard and Carol Lopez will be featured this month, with an exhibit of Howard's watercolors of churches, landscapes and objects and works by Lopez in a variety of mediums, including encaustic. 2470 Calle de Guadalupe, 522-2933.
