Table Talk
China Gate, the restaurant on Hwy. 180, tucked in behind the Snappy Mart, has a new owner. Tom Laws, a Silver City CPA, bought the eatery last month. Expect some new menu-expanding items in the New Year — like good old American steaks — along with the rest of the Gate's authentic Chinese fare, including the classic Wor Wonton soup that is a meal in itself. Dine in or take out. 1740 E. Hwy. 180, 388-1191.
The Wine & Spirit Shoppe is now open at Brigid's Cross Irish Pub in Las Cruces. (See review in the December 2008 issue.) The Shoppe includes all items available behind the bar at the pub, and then some. 1338 Picacho Hills Dr., 647-1455. www.brigidscrossirishpub.com, www.lascrucespub.com
Katana, a new Asian eatery, is under construction on University Avenue, in the Kinko's shopping center next to Mix restaurant in Las Cruces.
What's in a name? Last month's Table Talk noted the passing of a Cruces burger joint, but got the name wrong — well, kind of. It was Mr. Bill's Burgers — the place that dropped "In and Out" from its name soon after opening, owing to "alleged" copyright infringement — that recently bit the big one, not Bob's. In fact, Bob's used to be in that same location. But then it was Bill's. And now Bob and Bill have both moo-o-o-o-o-ved on.
But don't worry, there'll still be plenty of beef in the city. Pro's Ranch Market is coming soon to El Paseo and Wyatt.
