Ansel Adams, the Man Who Captured the Earth's Beauty—Photography exhibit through August 4. Ansel Adams (1902-1984) is one of the most celebrated photographers of the 20th century. Influential in the development of photography as an art form and recognized for his dramatic black and white photographs of the American wilderness, he was a gifted teacher, prolific writer and passionate environmentalist. His majestic photographs, darkroom technical expertise and teaching skills brought him artistic acclaim. Adams was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1980 for his work with the Sierra Club and his passion for wilderness conservation.
