Everything's Ducky in Deming—Again

The annual Great American Duck Race in Deming celebrates its 27th year, Aug. 24-27, with a new theme song. Local recording artist Cal West has penned a song about "Dudley Duck, a winner in the Deming Duck Race." West will perform his song at the Duck Downs Entertainment area, and copies will be available for sale. The last time an original song was created for the race was way back in 1981, when Red Eye Country recorded a song titled "The Duck Race Song." The new song is in the style of classic country, and is posted in RealAudio format on the official Duck Race Web site at www.demingduckrace.com.

The race's 2006 logo also features a new artist, local artist Lonnie Johnson. The logo sports a circus theme, with a red-and-white circus tent and a duck clad as a ringmaster. The circus theme will be a required judging criterion in both the Duck Royalty pageant Thursday night, and the Tournament of Ducks Parade on Saturday morning.

As usual, the highlight of the Great American Duck Race will be live duck races on either a water or dry track. Other events include a Green Chile Cookoff (on a new day this year), Rotary's Tortilla Toss (also on a new day), Outhouse Race, Mud Bog and Hot Air Balloons. For more information, visit the website at www.demingduckrace.com or call toll-free (888) 345-1125.
