What's New in Desert Exposure

The May issue blooms with everything from movie-making to border security, hot springs to the Ice Age. Start with Phillip Parotti’s charming memoir of Silver City at mid-century—the good, the bad and the dusty. Then take a splash at Faywood Hot Springs, where we meet the new owners who’ve reopened the Grant County landmark after nearly six years. Ride along with the Border Patrol near Douglas, Ariz., and zoom in on Las Cruces filmmaker Ilana Lapid.

Southwest Wildlife scribe Jay W. Sharp takes a slightly different tack this month, writing about extinct critters—namely, the 11,000-year-old ground sloth found hereabouts that taught us much about the world of the last Ice Age. Restaurant writer Peggy Platonos samples Sonoran-style hot dogs at Los Compas in Bayard. And Southwest Gardener columnist Vivian Savitt shares some secrets of growing your own privacy.

Did we mention that you can now join us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter? If it feels like Desert Exposure is everywhere these days, well, maybe you’ve just got spring fever.
